Burns in children are very dangerous
Surgeons have alarming statistics: among the total number of people who received burns, more than 30 — 35% are children, and almost half of them are very small — up to three years.
The smaller the child, the greater the danger for him is a burn injury. Even superficial burns. if they are extensive in size, they always endanger the lives of children, and limited deep burns often lead to disability from an early age. In the field of deep burns, especially at fingers of hands and feet or large joints, there are rough ruby that restrict movement, disrupt the blood supply, interfere with the normal development of the child. It is not always possible to eliminate these serious consequences with the help of multiple surgical operations.
Young children are most often burned with hot liquids — milk, tea, soup, water. It happens that the negligence of the parents put the baby in a hot bath, without having tried the water at least to the touch. Frequent cases of burns in infants, when trying to warm them with warmers, forgetting that the baby’s skin is more sensitive to high temperature than the skin of an adult.
From the age of two children become very mobile and curious. They are attracted by the steam from the pan, or kettle, brilliant electric iron, hot plates, electrical outlet sticking out of the bare wire. They reach for them with their hands, they want to touch everything themselves. And the result is often sad: deep burns, disfiguring scars, deformation, and sometimes even amputation of one or more fingers.
Older children, especially schoolchildren, are more likely to suffer from open flame burns. Pyrotechnic fun with gunpowder, explosive mixtures, kindling a fire or furnace with gasoline, kerosene, diesel almost always turn into trouble.
Children can not assess the threat posed by fire, hot liquids, chemicals, electricity. Adults are obliged to stop dangerous games, to warn trouble. But attention is drawn to such an alarming fact: burns in children of all ages very often occur on Saturdays and Sundays, when parents are at home. This indicates that adults are not always vigilant, and their carelessness and negligence cost children too much.
If the accident has already happened and the child was burned, do not self-medicate. Do not lubricate the damaged areas of the skin with any fats, do not use any home remedies.
In cases where the area of the lesion on the arm or leg, for example, is limited, immediately place the arm or leg for a few minutes in cold water, then gently, with blotting movements, drain the skin with a clean soft cloth, apply a clean, better sterile dry bandage and take the child to the hospital.
I must say that the small area burn in a child can cause shock, even death. In case of extensive burns, immediately release the affected person from the clothing by cutting, rather than removing it, so as not to damage the resulting bubbles. Then wrap the child in a clean sheet and immediately deliver to the hospital. This is necessary because the burn shock can only be recognized by a doctor and requires intensive treatment in a hospital.
Since the mechanisms of antimicrobial protection in the child have not yet been formed, the infection that got into his body through the burnt surface often leads to sepsis (General infection of the blood). It is also possible to prevent this terrible complication and take the necessary medical measures in time only in hospital conditions.
Burns in children — severe injury, and responsible adults who have lost vigilance. Remember this. parents!
